I know how lucky I am to have a gorgeous backyard – the yard was what sold me on our fixer-upper of a house! I fell in love with the yard before I ever set foot in this house. Between the pond, the old trees, the flowers that lived here before we did, and the undeveloped land that surrounds us and lends a feeling of seclusion – it is the perfect yard for a photographer!
Before this year, I had only used my backyard for one official photo session (not counting the zillions of pictures I have taken of my own family in the yard.) This year I have made it a goal to make more use of it. I thought I’d share some pictures taken recently in my backyard. The wonderful thing about the space is that it is always changing. All season, new flowers bloom and old ones fade; the grass of the swamp grows taller and greener all summer, before fading to tan in the fall. Trees flower, leaf out, and leaves change color. During the day the light changes from morning to evening, offering opportunities for a totally different look in the same location.
It is so much more than a backyard, and so much more versatile than any studio could be. Truly I have the perfect outdoor studio! Take a look and let me know if you agree. =)
These mother-daughter portraits were taken in the morning.
These photos of a young couple with their baby were taken recently in the late afternoon.
This family visited my yard late afternoon and ended up getting a little bit rained on before the sun made an appearance. We had fun anyway!
We even staged a cake smash in my backyard. Yes – this really is outdoors!
The possibilities for photo shoots are nearly endless. I will be putting up a few fun swings soon…. stay tuned for pictures of that. Thanks for looking! To see more, visit my online galleries.
